A three-day (5-7 Feb) workshop on integrating Indian Sign Language (ISL) into the OLABS platform, developed by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, was held at Happy Hands School for the Deaf, Odisha.
Technical and subject experts from Amrita University (Kollam campus), the Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre, and the Happy Hands team collaboratively developed a prototype demo unit in Science, designed to be implemented alongside the existing OLABS content.
The workshop proved to be an enriching experience, particularly when middle school students actively engaged with the demo content and provided thoughtful, constructive feedback. The visiting experts were both surprised and deeply moved by the clarity, insight, and confidence with which the students shared their perspectives.
At Happy Hands, we continuously strive to make education more inclusive, effective, and accessible, reaching the maximum number of Deaf children. This collaboration holds the potential to grow into a next level of systemic change in Deaf education and digital content development, supported by further research on the efficacy of such accessible learning platforms. Thankful for being chosen for such prestigious and impactful work.
