Academic Programme at Happy Hands School for the Deaf
A Holistic, Bilingual, Research-Led Curriculum for Deaf Learners
Overview
At Happy Hands, the academic programme is bimodal bilingual—using Indian Sign Language (ISL) as the primary language of instruction and English as the second language for literacy and academic communication. This ensures full language access from day one, enabling cognitive, linguistic, and social development without delay.
The curriculum follows a modified and enriched NCERT framework, adapted for Deaf learners through visual, interactive, and experiential teaching methods. All subjects—mathematics, science, social studies, computer science, and the arts—are taught in ISL, with careful integration of English literacy and subject vocabulary.
