Research & Innovation
At Happy Hands School for the Deaf, research is at the heart of our approach to education. We believe that every Deaf child deserves an education that is informed by evidence, responsive to their language and learning needs, and continuously improved through reflection and innovation.
Our research focuses on Indian Sign Language (ISL), literacy and reading development, bilingual education, English language learning, curriculum development, and effective teaching practices for Deaf learners. Our teachers work closely with researchers and academic partners to observe children’s learning, assess progress, identify challenges, and develop practical solutions that can be used in the classroom.
Through our Transdisciplinary Research Group, Reading Research Group, Literacy Approaches Group, and English Grammar Games (EGG) Group, we bring together teachers, researchers, and Deaf education professionals to explore new approaches to teaching and learning. Research findings are translated into classroom practices, learning resources, adapted textbooks, curriculum improvements, and innovative digital tools.
Our work reflects a simple principle: research should make a difference in children’s lives. At Happy Hands, research is not separate from teaching—it is a continuous cycle of learning, testing, reflecting, and improving. By connecting research with everyday classroom practice, we aim to contribute to stronger, more inclusive, and evidence-informed Deaf education in India.
